Classic | Flake Floor
A flake floor coating is a layered system that bonds decorative flake into a tough resin finish. It is our most popular garage floor in the Raleigh area because it looks great, hides imperfections, and stands up to hot tires, many automotive and household chemicals, and daily traffic for years.
In most cases, residential flake floors come with a lifetime warranty against peeling and failures, so you can park on it with confidence.
How the Flake Floor System Works
We start by diamond grinding the concrete so the coating bonds mechanically instead of just sitting on top. Then we repair cracks and damage, roll on an epoxy base coat, and broadcast vinyl flake into the wet epoxy by hand. Once it cures, we knock down the excess texture and topcoat it with a durable polyaspartic urethane clearcoat.
In most cases, the whole process usually takes two days. This process creates a better product for your than 1-day floors. You can walk on the floor 24 hours after completion and return to full service after 48 hours. See our full process for more detail.
Custom Flake Color Options
One of the best parts of a flake floor is making it your own. We carry a wide range of flake color blends, from subtle grays and tans to bolder mixes that match your garage, your home, or your favorite team. During your free estimate, Carl brings samples so you can see the blends in person and pick the one you like best.
Want to see real floors in your color before you decide? Just ask. We are happy to show you completed flake floors from around the Triangle so you know exactly what to expect.
Flake Floor FAQ
How long does a flake floor installation take?
We highly recommend a two day install, it is a superior product to a 1-day garage floor. 1-day systems are better for us as contractors, and the marketing departments have done a great job of making them seem superior. In the commercial world, architects and engineers still demand 2-day systems unless there is a short return-to-service window.
Can I walk on my new floor the same day?
We recommend waiting until the next morning before allowing foot traffic.
Can you install a flake floor in one day?
Yes, and you can also cook a steak in the microwave. The concept that 1-day flooring systems are superior comes from the marketing department, not the chemistry department. They are better for us as contractors, and a 2-day system is a better product for you.
What is the difference between a flake floor and a quartz coating?
Flake uses vinyl chips for a textured, speckled look that hides flaws. They don’t have to have a lot of color and contrast, but usually a color blend is used to hide dirt and imperfections. Quartz uses a finer, sand-like aggregate and has a more aggressive anti-skid texture. For a residential garage floor the Quartz coating is overkill.
Do you offer a warranty on flake floors?
Yes. Most residential flake floors come with a lifetime warranty against hot tire peel and delamination failures.
How do I clean a flake floor?
It is easy. Rinse with water and pull it dry with a soft squeegee, or use a mild cleaner for spills. Avoid harsh chemicals and you will keep that finish looking new for years. See our care instructions to learn more.
