How to Care for Your Garage Floor Coating
Your new garage floor will last for decades with very little upkeep. Here is what you need to know to keep it looking great.
How do I clean my epoxy or polyaspartic garage floor coating?
Sweep or blow off the floor. Spray tough spots with a pH-neutral cleaner like Fabuloso or Bona floor cleaner and lightly scrub them. Apply a heavy mist of water to the entire floor, do not flood or saturate. Scrub the floor gently if desired. Use a neoprene foam squeegee to pull the water out out or into a wet vac.
Which cleaning products can I use to clean my garage floor coating?
Ph neutral, non-detergent cleaners such as Fabuloso, Bona floor cleaner, or other cleaning products specifically designed for floors.
You should avoid detergents, waxes, shine enhancers, bleach, and ammonia. Detergents and waxes leave behind residue that will form a film over time, diminishing the sheen and color.
Can a garage floor coating resist spills?
Polyaspartic/polyurea is very resistant to most household and automotive chemicals. You should stll clean up spills quickly, especially solvents, gasoline, brake fluid, etc. Prolonged exposure to liquid can temporarily soften the coating, allowing the liquid to penetrate the pores causing discoloration. Wine leaking from your recycle bin is a good example.
Is it safe to power wash my garage floor coating?
We do not recommend power washing. It is unnecessary and will slowly erode the sheen and dull the finish over time. It will also make a mess of the walls, cabinets, and surrounding surfaces. Follow our guidelines and you should never feel the need to power wash your floor.
Can I wax my garage floor coating?
No. We do not recommend the use of waxes, shine enhancers like Mop & Glow, or products such as Swiffer wet jets. Not only will they form a film that dulls the finish over time, but they May also void your warranty as they are a bond breaker, preventing subsequent repairs or coats of material from properly bonding.
Do I need to reseal my garage floor regularly?
No. High-quality garage floor coatings like ours will last decades if they are not abused or damaged. Follow our care guidelines and you shouldn’t have to worry about re-coating your floor as maintenance.
How often should I clean my garage floor coating?
It really depends on your specific application. For most residential homes, quarterly or twice a year is sufficient. If it is high traffic or serves as a workshop, you may need to clean it more often. It’s more important to keep it free of abrasive debris like sand and gravel and to clean up spills in a timely manner.
